JOIN popular British historian, author, broadcaster and award-winning journalist, DAN JONES for the Adventure of a Lifetime!  BE THERE as the stories and times of one of Britain's most powerful royal families is brought to life!  Dan will lead us through the history of King Henry II, the beautiful and seductive, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, her sons, the wily, King John and the powerful, King Richard the Lionheart!  Dan will present information from his book The Plantagenets in places where the stories and action ACTUALLY TOOK PLACE!!  Dan will give you the information, show you around, and answer your questions!  What could be better!

ITINERARY AND EXCURSIONS

Day 1 - Friday
April 8, 2022
​Travel

Today we arrive in Paris and transfer to our hotel.  ​In the evening we will gather for dinner and "Welcome Meeting".  After dinner, each guest will have the opportunity to have a professional photo taken with Dan for a keepsake.

Day 2 - Saturday
​April 9, 2022 
​Château Gaillard, Rouen, and Anger

Following breakfast, we board our bus to begin our adventure. Our first stop is the ruins of the mighty Château Gaillard built by Richard the Lionheart.  
​Next, we travel on to Rouen to visit its famous Cathedral where we will see the tomb containing the heart of Richard the Lionheart!  In addition, we will see the tombs of John Plantagenet and Empress Matilda, among others.  Lunch will be in Rouen, on your own. We will complete our day with a scenic drive to Anger where we will spend the night.  Dinner on your own.

Day 3 - Sunday
April 10, 2022
Château d'Anger and Fontevraud Abbey,
​Wine Tasting, and Tours

Following breakfast, we will visit the impressive Château d'Anger that was built by the Counts of Anjou.  The Château became a seat of power for the Plantagenet.  We will visit highlights of the Château with Dan, including the Apocalypse Tapestry.  Our adventure continues with a visit to the Fontevraud Abbey, the final resting place of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Richard the Lionheart.  Later, we will enjoy wine tasting before continuing on to Tours where we will spend the night.  Dinner is on your own.

​Day 4 - Monday
​April 11, 2022
​Château d'Amboise
​and Château de Chenonceau.

Today we depart for the beautiful Château de Chenonceau, one of the most famous and visited châteaux in France.  Our visit will include the gardens and galleries.  We continue on to Amboise for lunch on your own.  After lunch, we will visit the Château d'Amboise, famous for its connections to Leonardo Da Vinci.  You will have free time to explore and shop in Amboise before we return to Tours for the evening.  Dinner is on your own.

Day 5 - Tuesday
​April 12, 2022 
​Château Royal de Blois, Château de Cheverny, and Château de Chambord

This morning we will see several historic châteaux, beginning with Château de Blois.  We continue to Cheverny and complete our day with a visit to the home of French King, François I, the famous Château de Chambord.  We leave for Paris this evening.  Dinner is on your own.

Day 6 - Wednesday
​April 13, 2022
Paris: Archaeological Crypt,
​Free time!

Today, we visit the Archaeological Crypt of the Île de la Cité.  Following this visit, you will have the remainder of the day free to explore Paris on your own.  We will have our farewell dinner in the evening.

Day 7 - Thursday
April 14, 2022
​Leave for home

We will transfer to the airport for our return trip home, taking with us connections to new friends and memories of a wonderful adventure!
