REVOLUTIONARY PARIS
featuring
LUCY WORSLEY!

JOIN popular British historian, author, and Chief Curator of Historic Royal Palaces,
DR. LUCY WORSLEY for a Revolutionary Adventure!

Enjoy the history and adventure of the French Revolution!  Visit the sites where it all happened!  In the evening, enjoy dinner, discussions, and Q&A's with Lucy Worsley as she shares her knowledge and enthusiasm for the history of this exciting period!  Lucy will be with us the first three days of our adventure!  The remaining days our local specialist will give us insights into the post revolutionary time of Napoleon Bonaparte!

ITINERARY AND EXCURSIONS

Day 1 - Friday
April 1, 2022
​Travel

Arrive in Paris and transfer to our hotel.  ​We will gather for dinner and our "Welcome Meeting". Lucy will respond to questions from the group and prepare us for what we will see the next day.

Day 2 - Saturday
April 2, 2022
​Versailles Palace, Gardens
​and Trianons

Today we will spend a wonderful day at Versailles!  But first, each member of the group will have a professional photo taken with Lucy!  Afterwards, we will visit the incredible Château that served as the palace for the Bourbon royalty, along with its beautiful Gardens, and the Trianon châteaux.
In the evening, we will return to the hotel where we will have dinner, time for 
a Q&A with Lucy, and discussion of what we will see tomorrow.  Afterwards, everyone will stay for book signings and selfie-time with Lucy.

Day 3 - Sunday
​April 3, 2022

​Château de Fontainebleau and Barbizon

This morning we will board our coach to take us to Fontainebleau to see the palace where Napoleon spent the last days of his reign before abdicating. In addition, we will visit Barbizon, the painters' village. Then we will return to the hotel where we will bid farewell to Lucy as she departs for London.

​Day 4 - Monday
​April 4, 2022
​Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, 
​and Napoleon's Tomb 

Today, our adventure continues with the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte!  We begin with the Arc de Triomphe, then on to Les Invalides: the final resting place of Napoleon.  Next, we will visit the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel and the Louvre where we will see the famous painting of the coronation of Napoleon, among others.​

Day 5 - Tuesday
​April 5, 2022
​Basilica of St. Denis,
the Conciergerie, and 
​​Musée Carnavalet

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.  Following breakfast, our guide will take us to see the Basilica of St. Denis, the final resting place of King Louis XVI and his queen, Marie Antoinette.  Next, we will see the Conciergerie, which became one of the principal places of detention during the French Revolution.  Marie Antoinette and others were kept here.   Next, we will visit the Musée Carnavalet to see a collection of artifacts from the time of the revolution.

Day 6 - Wednesday

​Château de Malmaison

Today we conclude our time with Napoleon by visiting Malmaison, one of his favorite retreats.  It was the home of Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, and the final residence of Napoleon in France.
In the evening we will return to our hotel for dinner and fun together.

​Leave for home

We will transfer to the airport for our return trip home, taking with us connections to new friends and memories of a wonderful adventure!

Dr Lucy Worsley is, by day Chief Curator at Historic Royal Palaces and by night a writer of history books. Somewhere in between she also finds the time to present TV series on a range of historical subjects.

Since 2009 Lucy has presented shows for Channel 4, History and has become a mainstay across the BBC covering everything from Alfred The Great, King Henry VIII and Britain’s fascination with murder.

In 2017 Lucy presented Jane Austen: Behind Closed Doors (BBC2), in which Lucy explored the different houses in which Jane Austen lived and stayed, to discover just how much they shaped Jane’s life and novels.
​
In 2016 Lucy presented, Six Wives with Lucy Worsley (BBC1), an ambitious and ground-breaking approach to drama and history. Lucy travelled back in time to the Tudor Court to witness some of the most dramatic moments in the lives of Henry VIII’s six wives. Earlier in the year she also fronted Empire of the Tsars: Romanov Russia, a three part series for BBC4, telling the extraordinary story of the dynasty who ruled Russia for more than three centuries. 2016 also saw Lucy front Lucy Worsley: Mozart's London Odyssey (BBC4) and co-host The Real Versailles (BBC2).

​Lucy’s writing has been very well received and her history books include Courtiers: A Secret History of the Georgian Court (2010), If Walls Could Talk: An Intimate History of Your Home (2010), A Very British Murder (2013) and Jane Austen at Home (2017). In 2016 Lucy published her first novel for children Eliza Rose which she followed up with My Name is Victoria in 2017.

​Lucy recently won the BAFTA for Specialist Factual for the documentary Suffragettes with Lucy Worsley in 2019.
​
Lucy graduated from New College, Oxford with a first-class honours BA degree in Ancient and Modern History. In 2001 she was awarded a PHD from the University of Sussex. She lives by the Thames in South London with her husband, the architect Mark Hines. ​
